Rolex Submariner and Rolex GMT are the two models created by Rolex to meet different professional needs. With the advancement of internet, both these wrist watches can now be available through various online resources such as www.timeandgems.com/rolex-submariner.html. Some of the major aspects where both these models differ from each other are discussed below.
a) Bezel rotation: Both the wrist watches feature a rotational bezel but with a minor difference. The Rolex Submariner features a uni-directional rotating bezel which rotates counter-clockwise as opposed to the bi-directional bezel found in the Rolex GMT watches. Also the functionality of the bezel is different in the two models.
The uni-directional bezel in the Rolex Submariner is designed to assist a diver to measure time while diving. The diver before entering into the water needs to set the bezel so that the triangle engraved on the bezel points at the current minute hand position. This will start counting the minutes while the diver descends. Thus by setting the position of the triangle again, he can speed up his accent as well. By measuring the elapsed time, the bezel thus ensures the safety of the diver. On the other hand, the bi-directional rotating bezel found in the Rolex GMT, helps the wearer to observe the time of two different time zones simultaneously.
b) Water depth rating: The current Rolex GMT models have a water depth rating of 330 feet whereas the submariner models have the water depth rating of 300 meters or 1000 feet.
c) All the current Rolex GMT models sport a ceramic bezel which is not supported by the Submariner models.
d) The currently available Rolex GMT models offer various jewellery embedded options such as diamond paved dial, sapphires and rubies, rotating bezel fitted with diamonds and even diamond fitted lugs. These kinds of jewellery options are not available in the Rolex Submariner models.
